Medical Nutrition Aid Sent

This past weekend we sent 88 lbs (40 kg) of Osmolite tube feeding nutritional supplements and wound care supplies to the Kharkiv Regional Clinical Hospital. These tube feeding supplements are for patients who may need additional caloric support and are not able to swallow due to their injuries. This kind of nutritional support is essential for the care of patients who have long term injuries. Our shipment also included large syringes and tubing for the delivery of the supplements to patients with feeding tubes in place.

Tpn Delivered

Earlier this summer, we received a request from the O.O. Shalimov National Institute of Surgery and Transplant Medicine in Kyiv to help provide supplies of Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) for their patients. Many of their patients have suffered combat wounds and required surgery, and may not be able to eat and use their gut to absorb nutrients while recovering. TPN, you will recall, provides all the protein, sugars, and fats – as well as vitamins and minerals – that the body needs while healing.

Ambulances Equipped in Mykolaiv, Dnipro, and Zaporizhzhia

This past week saw a major delivery of aid paid for by our donors, and delivered by our partners, Future For Ukraine Foundation. We provided four automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to ambulances in the Mykolaiv, Dnipro, and Zaporizhzhia regions. AEDs are medical devices that help patients experiencing cardiac arrest. The device analyzes the heart’s rhythm and if necessary can deliver an electrical shock to help re-establish a normal heart rhythm.

Microscope for the Kharkiv Children's Hospital No. 16

For a number of weeks, we have had several aid projects in the works nearing completion. And this last one has been a big one for deliveries – so we are a little behind with announcements! The pediatric oncologists at the Kharkiv Children’s Hospital No.16 reached out requesting a trinocular microscope with camera to assist them in the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric cancers and other blood disorders. Working with our partners at Future For Ukraine foundation, we purchased a Levenhuk D870T clinical microscope, and we are pleased to announce it has been delivered and is in use!

Spirometer for the Kharkiv Regional Children's Clinical Hospital

This last week our partners Future For Ukraine Foundation helped us deliver a spirometer to the Kharkiv Regional Children’s Clinical Hospital. The $1500 in funds that allowed us to complete this project came from the Korones Family Foundation donation, and for that we are very grateful! Spirometers are medical devices that give doctors information about how well a patient’s lungs are working by measuring how much air goes into and out of the lungs during breathing.

Tpn

Total Parenteral Nutrition. We doctors call it “TPN.” It’s used when a patient has any severe bodily wound. We may not be able to use the gut to feed the patient. While the body heals, the patient still needs to be fed. That’s where TPN comes in. TPN provides all the protein, sugars, and fats – as well as vitamins and minerals – needed to sustain life while healing occurs. It’s given intravenously.
