Medical Aid Shipment for the Liberated Kharkiv Region

Medical aid shipment for the liberated Kharkiv region.

The ambulance that our donors purchased for the Kharkiv Children’s Regional Hospital No. 1 will leave France for Ukraine stocked full of medical supplies. The Kharkiv Children’s Regional Hospital No. 1 treats children from the entire Kharkiv region (meaning the oblast beyond Kharkiv city). As they have the best pediatric surgery program, this is the hospital where all the children injured by shrapnel are admitted and cared for. When children are admitted, they literally live there with their parents for the duration of the admission. Unfortunately, many times children with war injuries are admitted suddenly, and the hospital is always running low on very basic supplies. When we contacted them to see what supplies we could best send, the list was heart-breaking: they need basic wound care supplies, but also children’s slippers, Q-tips, soap, and laundry detergent.

We also heard from the hospital in Balakliya, which was liberated on September 8, 2022 after more than six months of occupation, during which time many of the residents were subjected to torture by the russian invaders. They were left with next to nothing. Electricity is still hard to come by there, including in their hospital. They requested flashlights and wound care supplies.

Today we sent $1900 in medical supplies weighing 72 lbs / 32.7 kg to our contacts outside Paris, France who are helping ready the ambulance. Our French colleagues will add further supplies from their own donors, and then in about a week the ambulance will be delivered to Kharkiv. The supplies will go to the hospital in Balakliya as well as the Kharkiv Children’s Regional Hospital No. 1. Our donors make all of this possible.
