Medical Aid Shipment for Izyum Hospital

For the past several weeks we have been focusing on logistics to get medical aid to hospitals and clinics in the area of the Kharkiv region that was liberated in September 2022. Many of the towns in the region had been under occupation since March. One such town is Izyum (population 46,000). When the russians were sent packing in September, they destroyed much of the infrastructure on their way out and left behind mass graves. We had heard that the medical infrastructure in the town was devastated, and you can see the state of the local hospital in this report.

Here are some images we have received of the damage at the Izyum hospital below:

These are some recent images from the Izyum hospital showing the extent of the damage.

It is a priority for the Ukraine Medical Relief Fund to find ways to get aid into the area. Through contacts in Kharkiv city, we are starting to get supplies through. Working with a non-profit in Kharkiv called Kolos, just this week $830 in medical supplies donated by the Ukraine Medical Relief Fund arrived at the Izyum Hospital. It’s just a start - basic supplies such as glucometers, test strips, and blood pressure cuffs – but we wanted to confirm logistics to this hard-to-reach area.

The inventory of the shipment was as follows:

ITEM COUNT
Paramed classic blood pressure cuff 20
Contour Plus glucometer 5
Contour Plus test strips, box 10
Accu-check test strips, box 10
One-touch ultra test strips, box 8

In the upcoming weeks we plan to direct further funds raised toward repairing the medical infrastructure in Izyum and surrounding towns. This is such critical work that helps the people living in the recently liberated towns begin to heal and rebuild their lives. The need is enormous: from 24 February to 30 September 2022, the World Health Organization has verified 600 attacks on health care institutions by russian forces, resulting in at least 100 reported deaths of health-care personnel and patients.
